Bromhexine HCl belongs to a class of drugs called mucolytics. Bromhexine affects mucus in its early phases of formation in the glands, within the mucus-secreting cells. Bromhexine causes the structure of acid mucopolysaccharide fibres in mucoid sputum to be disrupted, resulting in a mucus that is less viscous and easier to expectorate.
